Factory Real-Life Scenario
Scenario: A junior commercial officer submitted an Insurance Broker's "Cover Note" to the negotiating bank instead of the official Insurance Policy, causing an immediate bank rejection.
Solution: Commercial Manager contacted the insurance underwriter directly to issue the stamped, signed original Marine Insurance Certificate within 4 hours.
Impact: Replaced the document and secured clean payment negotiation.
Commercial Officer Best Practice
Never accept a "Cover Note" from an insurance agent for an L/C negotiation; always insist on receiving the stamped, signed Marine Insurance Certificate or Policy.
Top Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
- Submitting an insurance certificate signed by a broker without stating they sign as agent for the underwriter.
