SMV Calculator — Calculate Standard Minute Value from Time Study

SMV (Standard Minute Value) is the time a skilled operator working at standard performance should take to complete an operation, used for costing, target-setting, and efficiency measurement.

What is SMV?

SMV (Standard Minute Value) is the time a skilled operator working at standard performance should take to complete an operation, used for costing, target-setting, and efficiency measurement.

Formula

Basic Minute Value (BMV) = Observed Time × (Rating%/100) SMV = BMV × (1 + Allowance%/100)

Assumptions

PFD (personal/fatigue/delay) allowance percentage is factory-specific — commonly 10–20% but not universal — always enter your own factory's standard allowance rather than assuming a default.

How to Calculate

Multiply cycle time by operator performance rating percentage to get BMV, then multiply by (1 + allowance percentage) to arrive at final SMV.

Example

Observed=0.5 min, Rating=90%, Allowance=15% → BMV=0.45 → SMV=0.5175 min.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's the observer's judgment of how fast the operator worked compared to a defined standard pace (100% = standard pace), expressed as a percentage.
